Foxton Locks

Updated: Jan 13

There's nothing better than an evening walk, especially when the days get longer, and the temperature begins to pick up a little.

Well, despite the weather being, for want of a better word, shocking this week, we hit upon a bit of a break in the snow and rain this evening and took a drive over to Foxton Locks. (I still can't believe in April I'm talking about snow - even more so, considering I was in shorts last week!)

If you've never been to Foxton Locks, it's definitely worth the trip. Now, history was never my strong point, but a brief trip over to Wikipedia tells me the following:

"The Foxton Inclined Plane is a canal inclined plane on the Leicester Line of the Grand Union Canal about 5 km (3.1 mi) west of the Leicestershire town of Market Harborough, named after the nearby village of Foxton. The plane was built in 1900 as a solution to various operational restrictions imposed by the Foxton Lock flight. However, it was not a commercial success and only remained in full-time operation for ten years. The plane was dismantled in 1926. A project to re-create the plane commenced in the 2000s because the narrow beam locks remain a bottleneck for leisure boat traffic."

Or.....As I understand it: A really old hill that contains a construction designed to work like a staircase for Canal Boats.

Much simpler.

Anyway, back to the topic, there are a couple of really nice pubs placed at the waterside where two branches of the canal meet. (At the bottom of the complicated water staircase for canal boats). It's just a really nice place for a walk around. There's always a decent smattering of barges moored up, a smell of chimney smoke in the air, and of course, importantly, a Pub that sells beer... Not sure if I'd mentioned that already. 😉

So, myself, Rachel and Cleo went for a wander, camera in hand, grabbed a few spring timey photos, and enjoyed a drink and a natter sat at the water's edge, after a hectic weekend with Alice.

It was genuinely just really peaceful, relaxing, and amazing to have a couple of minutes away from any distractions, as both myself and Rachel have been mental busy this week.]

They say a picture paints a thousand words, so I'll let the photos do the talking,

Catch ya next week!

Peace, Love and Photos.
