It's no secret the weather over the coronation weekend was a little bit on the rainy side, but on the Sunday, we were treated to a well-needed break in the rain and some gorgeous sunshine for the wedding of Kay and Mark at The Fox and Goose, just on the outskirts of Chesterfield.
The setting at the Fox and Goose is fantastic. Set nicely on the top of a hill just at the entrance of the Derbyshire dales, it's treated to panoramic views of the area. The sun was the icing on the cake, so I knew capturing some stunning shots of the couple and their guests throughout the day was going to be a pleasure.
I caught up with Mark before the big ceremony and it's safe to say he was definitely feeling the jitters. As soon as the registrars showed up and whisked him away for a meeting before Kay arrived, I was really hoping they were able to calm him down and get everything sorted before the main event.
Meanwhile, I popped out outside to meet with Kay and her bridesmaids who had arrived in a lovely old classic car, they were all crammed in and ready for the main event, full of smiles ready to make their way up the aisle to meet with Mark.
Where they were parked was clearly going to be well in view of the ceremony room where all the guests were already seated, so the venue staff made sure to get their driver to hide them away near the door so that Kay could make her grand entrance without any prying eyes.
Its always a little hectic for us photographers in the run-up to the ceremony and I always like to make sure I'm in the right place at the right time so I can get all of the shots I need, so once I'd met with Kay, it was back up to the ceremony room to photograph their guests finding their seats and Mark waiting at the top of the aisle.
Just like that, it was time for Kay to make her way up the aisle ready to meet Mark, for what was a beautiful ceremony, full of smiles and laughter helped along by a nice and cheerful registrar.
I'd spoken with Kay a couple of days before, to clarify the plan for the day, and I knew that there were a few shots the newlyweds wanted to get. One shot was the couple departing for a quick drive in that lovely old classic car, with the guests waving them off, so as soon as the ceremony was over we ushered everyone outside to grab that all-important shot as Kay and Mark went for a quick trip around the dales.
After that, it was straight into group shots, the confetti shot and a couple of the more candid photos of their guests enjoying a drink in the sunshine, before the couple sat down for their wedding breakfast.
I always make a point of leaving the wedding party to it when everyone sits down for food, so for the first time this year, I found a nice seat in the sun, to back up my cards and change over my batteries before I reappeared again for the speeches.
I really wanted to take advantage of the views, and Kay had mentioned to me a couple of days prior that they'd purchased a couple of smoke bombs for some photos. It's not often I get to have a bit of fun with some pyrotechnics, so I roped in a couple of guests to set them off for me and got some wicked shots of the couple surrounded in some brightly coloured smoke with some ever so slightly hazy rolling hills in the background.
As the day drew to a close, there was only the first dance and cake-cutting left to capture, so as always, I picked my position and wrapped up the final few shots, before it was time for me to make my exit.
It's always an incredible honour to capture any wedding, and I like to make a habit of getting involved as much as possible, which is exactly what I tried to do for Kay and Mark. They're both such a lovely couple, who I wish many many years of happiness to!
See you next week for another one!
Peace, Love and Photos.
